I got myself a level 5/C1 english certificate yesterday. And that without taking any courses or extra studying.

To be honest, I’m not sure I understand how the whole thing with certificates and co. works, so I can’t tell if it’s the same one, but it was an Oxford Placement Test (organized by LMU) and that was my score.
Well yeah, I had (some) English in school (as 2nd foreign language), however I learned most of it by myself (TV, music, internet, books..).

@Minxie:
I’d like to take „English for medical purposes“ as optional subject (I wonder if that’s the right term, but I’m sure you know what I mean 😉 ) next semester, so I needed „an official proof“ of knowledge (B2 or higher) to be able to do so. I must say, I was pretty surprised by the results myself! 🙂

Generally,in order to study in a foreign university you need to have a certificate of level C1,at least. However,having C1,you should sit an exam,at the majority of universities. If you have C2,you are lucky,as you don’t have to sit any exam!
