I’m afraid the misunderstanding lies in the assumption that it is a question. In fact it’s not a question after all. It’s a greeting, a phrase, that’s all. No thought behind it. It’s like the French saying „Ca va?“ – „Ca va!“ – „Ca va, ca va!“. Or some Germans saying „Na du? – Na du!“.
I don’t like generalisations either but maybe it’s the cultural difference that makes this whole topic a bit difficult to get across 🙂
