„Ask any scholar of mid-to-late ’60s British pop to list the three top releases from the Summer Of Love: They’ll undoubtedly give you Sgt Pepper and argue the toss between, say, Ogden’s Nut Gone Flake and Piper At The Gates Of Dawn. But nine out of ten will also include the Zombies‘ Odessey And Oracle. To this day it remains a word-of mouth obscurity. But by those who know it’s held in such regard that the remaining living members of the band are to perform it in its entirety this year, on the fortieth anniversary of its release.“
„Odyssey and Oracle is widely acclaimed as one of the treasures of its era, alongside iconic albums like The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, Pet Sounds or Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. Odessey and Oracle can easily stand its ground against any of these works but more important, Odessey and Oracle is a musically distinct album in regards to other contemporary works.“
„But the core album, 12 tracks and about 34 minutes, is pure magic.“
„Though it may not represent the sprawling, tripped-out experimentation of their times, The Zombies‘ unique brand of lyric wit and daring arrangement expanded the limits of pop. Odessey and Oracle stands as the band’s fully realized statement of intent, the parting shot from one of the few originals in the devolving tail-end of the 1960s.“
„Odessey and Oracle was one of the flukiest (and best) albums of the 1960s, and one of the most enduring long-players to come out of the entire British psychedelic boom, mixing trippy melodies, ornate choruses, and lush Mellotron sounds with a solid hard rock base.“
„Despite the plethora of ‚what-ifs‘ that surround this gem, it remains an album that should grace any record collection. Essential… “
„The album is an absolute stellar achievement to me, bearing all of the necessary 1960s elements but sounding as if it were recorded centuries from now.
„The Zombies “Odessey and Oracle,” a forgotten classic“
„It’s a straight up, no bullshit album, and as far as I’m concerned, one of the best collections of pop music ever recorded.“
