A Motorhead fan was beaten to death in a Leeds city street after
watching the band’s gig at the O2 Academy.
Dad-of-one Andrew Crawford, 44, of Pudsey, was attacked on Dudley Way
near Millenium Square after the rock n‘ roll band’s concert on
Thursday night.Police say the killing may be linked to an incident during the gig at
the O2 on Cookridge Street, where Mr Crawford had gone with his cousin
and a friend.Three men stood close to the stage at around 8.30pm when
someone in the crowd set Mr. Crawford’s friend’s hair on fire.
The friend was upset and went home.After leaving the venue, Mr Crawford and his cousin are believed to
have spotted the two men responsible for setting their friend’s hair on
fire.At around 11pm, there was a confrontation on Dudley Way – behind St
Anne’s Cathedral and outside the Light shopping centre car park.
Mr Crawford was repeatedly punched and fell to the ground.He was taken to Leeds General Infirmary where he died of his injuries
at 2am today. (Friday)His cousin was also injured, but not seriously. He is helping police
piece together events leading to the tragedy.Police say Mr Crawford was a respectable and hard working man who was
divorced with an an 18-year-old son.He worked as as a manager at a local builders‘ merchants.
