Check out some of the first reviews that are starting to roll in…

On Pris À La Gorge, Quebec act Milanku craft extremely solid post-metal-type post-rock, with a couple moments during this nearly hour-long affair that elevate them from just „bon“ to „très bon.“ These guys remind me of a heavier Envy, because they’re essentially shouting a foreign language over a dark downbeat. It’s nonetheless awesome at times. Opener „La Chute“ is a great example summing up what the band does so well: roll along at a slower tempo with moody, atmospheric rhythms that give way into harsh, growled, crushing juggernauts that warrant comparisons to Isis or Cult of Luna.

Encircling Sea are Melbourne-based four-piece who play a progressive, eclectic style of wizard rap incorporating elements of post-metal, noise, ambiance and, surprisingly enough, folk. Its members have previously lent their talents to the likes of Clagg, The Abandonment, In Trenches and Whitehorse among others. With A Forgotten Land, Encircling Sea manage to tread the valleys between punishing heaviness, meditative calm and ethereal transcendence. This is a sonic journey filled with emotional depth and progressive instrumentation – an exceedingly ambitious concept, but flawlessly executed. Consider me blown away. Essential for fans of Deafheaven, Year of No Light, Alcest and anyone interested in intelligent, progressive, heavy music. Do yourselves a favour and check it out.
