so i was at gnr’s return to the stage last night & it was fucking awesome!!! i was one of the people here that refuused to ever collect 2002 bootlegs b/c i thought axl sounded like shit & was over & done forever. he couldn’t hit the notes anymore, he was fat, always in need of oxygen, etc. i really thought his voice had permanently changed forever & we’d never hear him sing ‚em good again… boy was i wrong!!!
last night amazed me b/c AXL IS BACK!!! he hit every note, sang the appetite songs as good as he ever did, didn’t use lyric monitors, didn’t require oxygen, didn’t run offstage every chance he could, etc. axl even lost weight & added muscle. he looked great & hasn’t sounded this good since ’93!! i was so fucking impressed! he was also in a great mood & it showed. he didn’t rant about anything, no one threw anything at him or onstage. you could tell he was happy to be there & be back rockin‘ onstage w/ the fans again. axl wore a black button-down shirt, blue jeans & his trademark braids. he looked healthier than ever, even healthier than he did 2 months ago.
he stage-set up was cool, lots of great lighting, tons of pyro: a falling shower of sparks that engulfed the length of the stage during the last part of november rain, giant huge firebombs exploding at various times (especially during llad). these firebombs were larger than i’ve ever seen at any arena concert ever. axl almost had a james hetfield incident when standing too close to it at the wrong time but he just laughed it off. lots of other pyro explosions & a huge confetti cannons going off on both sides of the stage for 1 minute straight during the end part of paradise city. robin stagedived & crowdsurfed during this part of the song. sidestage had Red arcs angling outward on sides of stage. the backdrop was just Vertical GNR banners with new chinese font and graphics – Cream colored with black or dark brown font & 3 oddly shaped video screens.
