Es donnert in den deutschen Charts! Gar nicht mainstreamig spielten sich die Metal-Ikonen Iron Maiden mit ihrem 15. Studioalbum „The Final Frontier“ auf Platz eins der Hitparade. Ihr deutsches Pendant Blind Guardian schaffte bereits vor einigen Wochen den Direkteinstieg auf Platz zwei. Auch die Metaller von Accept erklommen gerade den vierten Platz. Was ist das Erfolgsgeheimnis von Metal-Bands?

In der aktuellen Ausgabe des „Metal Hammer“: „Wacken 2010“-Special auf 32 Seiten!Jährlich strömen Tausende Metal-Fans zum „Wacken Openair“, 2010 waren es 82 000 Musikbegeisterte – zum Vergleich: Der Besucherrekord des legendären „Rock am Ring“-Festivals liegt in diesem Jahr bei 87 000 Zuschauern.
Heavy Metal – längst kein Außenseiter-Genre mehr! Was steckt hinter dem Erfolg?
„Metal Hammer“-Chefredakteur Christof Leim: „Ganz klar: Die Qualität der Musik und die Echtheit der Musiker.“
Iron Maiden etwa seien zwar Heavy-Metal-Millionäre, aber trotzdem bodenständig! „Sie stecken ihre Energie nicht nur in die Musik, sondern legen beispielsweise auch viel Wert auf die Gestaltung des CD-Booklets – um den Fans etwas zu geben“, sagt Leim.
So gehört Heavy Metal auch zu den Genres, deren Rückgänge im CD-Verkauf im Vergleich zum Pop geringer sind. Und das „Schwarze Album“ der Kult-Band Metallica ist die meisterverkaufte CD in den USA seit der Einführung des Zählsystems „Soundscan“ 1991.
Warum sind Metal-Fans so viel treuer als Popmusikbegeisterte?
Leim: „Heavy Metal ist Überzeugung und Lebensstil. Die Fans können sich mit den Bands identifizieren.“
Und was macht den aktuellen Charterfolg von Iron Maiden und Blind Guardian aus?
Leim: „Es sind die Besten in ihrem Genre. Beide Bands sind stilprägend und Iron Maiden ist klassische Blaupause (Vorlage) des Heavy Metal.“
Der anhaltende Erfolg von Iron Maiden (Gründung: 1975) und Blind Guardian (Gründung: 1984) hat kurz gesagt drei Gründe, meint Christof Leim: „Qualität, Kontinuität, Authentizität“!--
