The first entry in the EUROPA BURNS tourdiary by the metal retards of Dismember.
Today we started out at 2:50 in the morning to meet up everybody and go to the airport. Why do all tours start up at this ungodly time?
The flight down to Frankfurt was the usual deal, expensive beer and tiny seats. Upon arrival, the tourbus was missing. Shortly thereafter we found out that it was waiting for us at the wrong airport – a perfect start. So more time to kill with beer…
Until the bus arrived at the right spot.
One quick look at our home for the next 4 weeks and we realised it was the exact same bus we had in 2004, our old warhorse will serve us again. After 50.000 hours of traffic jams on the autobahn we arrived at the first venue, K4 in Nürnberg.
No time for a soundcheck since we were so late – but soundchecks are for amateurs anyway… Lots of new people to meet, merchandise to be counted, strings to be changed and beers to be downed.
At 20.00 the doors opened, the crowd poured in and the calm before the storm turned into the usual mayhem. Lay Down Rotten was out first, followed by Fall Of Serenity and Hatesphere.
At 23:00 we started the changeover, only to realise that a gearcheck would have been a good idea. Thomas pedals were missing, Davids wireless was broken and Martins guitarstrap was no more. Once again, a good start.
23.30 the show started and it couldn´t have been better, a venue full of metalfreaks banging their heads to old school STHLM Death Metal. Beer flowed, sweat flowed even more. After one hour of destroying our brain cells we walked off stage only to be called up again by the screaming crowd to end our set with ‘Dreaming In Red’.
All in all, a great show and finally the perfect start for the tour.
More beer to follow…

Highlights von metal-hammer.de09.02.2008
Goooooooood morning Trier!
Breakfast at Burger King to keep our nutrition at peak level. Any decent breakfast has to include chili cheese balls.
David, Tobias and Thomas took a walk into the historic city while Martin and Matti played a very Death Metal game of ping-pong at the venue. Today we decided to put professionalism aside and actually did a soundcheck. It will probably be the first and last of this tour.
After the soundcheck it was the usual timekilling which today consisted of ping-pong, pool, Fußball and beer. The dinner was excellent, vegetarian chili for the planetfriendly guys and birds (chicken) for the ones of us who hate the planet.
We were supposed to go on stage at 23:00 but due to some technical issues with the drums we hit the stage at 23:15. Once again, a killer show with a packed venue of enthusiastic metalfans. The setlist was a bit different this night and we played three songs from the new album. It´s always fun to do songs live for the first time – and it went great. We ended the show with ‘Dreaming In Red’ again to a married couple’s great joy – since they actually got hitched to that song!
After the show we had a couple of beers at the venue and then went to the bus for more beer.
We hit the sack at 4 AM after a nice day of metal.

Woke up in Belgium today. The sun was shining so we immediately ran into the dark metalshop to buy Iron Maiden, Motörhead and Judas Priest-albums.
The three amigos (David, Tobias and Thomas) took a walk in the countryside, cursed in a forest and saw a Belgian blue bull.
Since the crew is so good we don´t need to do anything at all – so to kill time we watched a movie in the bus and did an interview.
Early show today, we hit the stage at 21:30 and it was a concert full of humour and metal. We changed the setlist once again and opened with ‘Pieces’ and also tried out the new ‘The Hills Have Eyes’. It was a typical sundayshow and everyone was enjoying themselves.
After the show the polish crew forced us to drink vodka so it turned into the first actual party on this tour! Last men standing were David and Matti who had an Iron Maiden airguitar-show and cleaned up the mess from the rest of the idiots.
More vodka to follow…

Monday in Arnhem and everyone is a bit tired from yesterday. Everyone hanged at the venue – except for Matti who took a walk to see the famous bridge and look at some tanks, came back to the venue with a hard-on…
Indian food at the menue this evening, awesome meal!
The show was kind of early today as well because it was a Monday. So we went on stage at 22:25 and had ourselves a good time. The only bad thing was that 3 songs into the set, David’s equipment started to fail (must be our oldschool, rusty crap equipment). But while the crew sorted his stuff out we played a cover of ‘Painkiller’ for a very happy crowd who had yelled for it just for fun. It was a blast to hear Matti singing clean Rob Halford vocals!
After the show we hung out at the venue until it closed and then went down town and had some döner kebab. Finished the evening off with some Iron Maiden and beer in the bus.
More wine to follow…

The day started with Pepe from Hatesphere missing the bus after a short stop at a gas station. It cost him 52 Euros for the cabfare to get to the bus – but he was happy anyway just to get back.
When we arrived at Markthalle in Hamburg, Matti, Thomas and David took off to go to Reeperbahn while Martin and Tobias minded their personal hygiene, it was showertime. Tobias found a gym and went there to work out. He promised the guy at the gym that he´d put him on tonights guestlist if he could work out for free. After he was done he snuck out and forgot to do what he promised – a true rockstar.
Before the show Martin and David did a radiointerview with Tide radio. It turned out to be a laugh-fest because the girl who did the interview had such a funny laugh, maybe not the most serious interview but it was really fun.
22:25 was showtime. We were eager to headbang in front of the packed venue and the show was one of the best so far. Once again, Davids pedal from 1702 gave him trouble and of course it did so EXACTLY when David´s supposed to play the catchy middle part of ‘Skinfather’. He saved the day by taking the mic and said „Why don´t I just kill myself“ and then started over, funny as hell.
We left the venue straight after the show and in the bus it was once again time for metal from the loudspeakers and beer from the fridge.
More glühwein to follow…

Today we played in Osnabrück. First, we played some soccer with the guys in Fall Of Serenity, then we took a walk through the city for hours, later we went back to the bus.
The cold inside the venue was unbearable and set the stage for a plague that would ravage most of the guys on the bus for days to come.

Back in Holland again.
Took a walk in Breda and did some record and dvd-shopping. David discovered that his guitar needed some spare parts so Lutz from Fall Of Serenity accompanied him to a musicstore to fix it.
After the show Thomas and David went to get some kebab and as usual lost their way.
More rum to follow…

At 10 AM the bus left for Purmerend and the P3 venue.
When we arrived we immediately walked in to the bowlinghall for a few rounds. Since Thomas right wrist is injured, he had to bowl with his left hand and still managed to beat Matti in one round.
Before the show we watched Borat in the bus, great success.
Nice venue and a great show, the only bad thing was that some of us were starting to get really ill.
More tequila to follow…

Woke up in Essen today and for breakfast we had disgusting kebab and Billys pan pizza. Checked out some stores, but the only purchases were made in a recordshop.
Great dinner at a restaurant: chicken again, while Matti and Martin did an interview.
The Turock venue is always good for Dismember and tonight was no exception. Despite a growing sickness in the band we gave the crazy, patchfilled vestwearing death metal crowd a killer evening and it was hard to tell if the band or the crowd enjoyed it the most. Absolutely the best show so
far on the tour. While everybody else ripped it up LA-style, David ordered some tea in the bar to cure his soar throat and fever.

Longhorn in Stuttgart today – where Dismember haven’t played since 1995.
Everybody was tired from last night and David, Matti and Martin were getting really sick now. They rested the whole day to be able to do a good show so not much happened today.
Big crowd for a Sunday night so it was a good show although we were sick.
More moonshine to follow…

Monday in the small city of Wörgl – Austria.
Tobias and Thomas went to the pharmacy to buy medicine for the living corpses David and Martin.
Despite zombie guitarists we managed to do a good show. Fantastic crowd! Later the same night
Tobias and Thomas went to the local rock bar and had a few beers with the crew and the
other bands.More single malt to follow…
