we made just the same on „To Kill A Mockingbird“ ^^
„we did just the same..“ or if it was not mandatory „we had to do just the…“ would be more appropriate. But don´t mind me in your discussion, I find myself to an increasing degree unable to enjoy novelistic literature of newer origin.
oh my god… „to kill a mockingbird“ we read the book at school and we watched the movie, and of course, because it was soooo important we had to find out everything about the great depression in the usa. puh i really got depressed because of all that depressing information, i got then. but thats all past now and i can read what i want now.
if anyone wants a good read in english, please read the vampire chronicles of anne rice all in english! totally great!Anyone who is willing to improve his language-skills: Just watch your movies OmU. And log in on an anglish board.

when i´m in the weekly sneak preview and there are subtitles in the movie everyone is upset, because you cant concentrate on the language and the movie… you only follow those stupid subtitles!!! grrrrrrrrr

Well, I’ve vaguely heard that a town called Dorsten exists. So I searched Wikipedia to find out, where this might be.
I noticed first, that Dorsten has less than 80,000 inhabitants. That’s the size of many Irish towns as well… And very small indeed.
But while reading the Wikipedia-article I noticed the following (which I’m not going to translate, because it’s as funny as it is):Die ländlich geprägte Stadt hat dabei seinen kleinstädtischen Charakter (…) erhalten können.

If you aren’t a native speaker and you can really manage watching an English movie without subtitles for the first time and understand all of the langauge and the story, then you are really a natural.
A lot of dialogues, especially in American productions are held in a very strange slang, so that if you can’t follow them, you can’t really follow the story as well.
IMO it makes sense, to not only watch the movie once, but to check it out several times and fist follow the dialogues through subtitles, and finally, after you have understood the matter (or at least thought so^^) try to catch on to the flick without any help.--
