They said it was called Queen’s English, which is some kind of over-posh style. There’s also something slightly more „vulgar“, called some sort of Prince’s English or something, which is more common, but they don’t have the literature for that.

LOL, I love it how they tend to name everything. There’s not such a thing as Prince English. I just asked Scott and his reply was a quite dry „fucking linguists“ with a rather irritated facial expression. The Queen’s English might still be called Queen’s English but did you know that her majesty is highly influenced by the East-London dialect and her favourite TV show EastEnders? Linguists have found out that Lizzy sounds a lot different these days than she did 50 odd years ago. Even a queen does not live her life unspoilt from evil influence 😆

Oh, ok.
Well, I already thought there are some differences, it’s a common thing in every country after all, but didn’t actually expect them to be so big.
However, I meant that „common“ british accent, that we normally get to hear.
Btw, what kind of accent do you have? 😀

@dent: Sounds pretty awesome. I’d personally be probably more interested in that Prince version. 😉

I am a Gerdie – half German, half Geordie 😆 Although I have never ever encountered somebody who could tell I am German. Seems like I do not have a very broad German accent after all. We could ask Grindelwald, she was on the phone with me several times.. People tend to think I am Scandinavian. One even told me I sound South African… ?! Usually I get the „Where’s that accent from?“ question. That’s quite nice. I’d shoot myself if I sounded like Kier or Schwarzenegger!

Geordie is the dialect of the Newcastle city area. And this is how it sounds: CLICK ME

I think I should start writing Geordie dialect here, just for shits’n’giddles…

😆 😆 Sure, they’re really extreme, if you ask me.

I understand you perfectly, ‚cause I’m in a similar situation myself, just with German. Learning the grammar and the vocabulary is sometimes easier than learning the right pronunciation, or at least it goes „by the book“. That feeling however is a tricky thing to get. That’s why I’m also very glad (and proud) to hear that I have barely any accent at all pretty often. 🙂
