RedeemerHahahaa!!:haha: Believe it or not,I already have an 80s inspired hairstyle ! Actually,a Yngwie Malmsteen inspired hairstyle!! :-X

I am inclined to comment something along the lines of Condolences!, then again I think it’s rather cool 😈

darkdoutzenbut B2 is a very very basic level, who would require somthing like that??
even my poor French is B2, I guess 😀

    I beg to differ. A1 is the most basic. A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2. So why would B2 be ‚very very‘ basic?

RedeemerGenerally,in order to study in a foreign university you need to have a certificate of level C1,at least. However, having C1,you should sit an exam,at the majority of universities. If you have C2,you are lucky,as you don’t have to sit any exam!

You know what I know a bloke who’s got C1. He can read and write all kinds of things but when it comes to talking it’s just horrendous. I wonder why it is that he cannot transfer his theoretical skills into spoken skills. It’s really sad, mind you.

AcidQueen, I perfectly understood what you meant :). I hope your efforts pay off and you get into that course!

My theoretical skills are much better than my spoken skills, too. Written English like a boss, spoken like a douche.

Well, generally this depends on what you have practised the most. Learning any foreign language you practise more your writing/reading skills(with exercises, reading books/magazines),as you rarely get the chance to speak it every day…
Of course this is not a rule, some people have a balance between these two.
Personally,I have no difficulty neither with my spoken nor with my written English…

B2 is quite decent. In Bavaria, we reicieve an automatic B2 with finishing class 13.
So B2 already proves some skill; but the skill within B2 is very widespread.
Me, myself, I’m working on C1 (I know I will reicive it since I know my english is very good, but I have to pass some exams, so I call it ‚working‘) at the moment since I need it to finish my Masters at Weimar University.
It’s still 4 years to go ‚till then, but why shouldn’t I manage that now.

Did you know gemans can’t form waiting lines?
An australian friend of mine told me so; and ever since I realize: We just fucking can’t form waiting lines. I don’t know why that is, but it’s significant.

Yes, and I’m glad about this. I’ve personally seen people in the UK queue in front of shop windows (and other such lunacy).

It may well be that B2 is very common, but receiving B2 by graduating from year 13 does not mean people can actually communicate as well as the obtained level might imply 🙁
You might obtain C1, when you start writing RECEIVE correctly, English and Australien with a capital, ‚til with only one l, use the correct terms (waiting line?! Do you mean a queue?), the correct past tense (ever since I have realised) and create shorter sentences (a very German phenomenon) :haha: – no offence 😉

Nowt wrong with that 🙂 – I’d much rather queue than getting killed trying to get on a bus.

Fräulein Minx I’d much rather queue than getting killed trying to get on a bus.

If you have to fear getting killed as you are trying to get on a bus there’s a problem with mutual respect – not with the unwillingness of people to queue.

I don;t doubt that for a second. However I cannot change a lack of mutual respect in people. Hence I’d rather queue than run the risk 🙂

You can’t change people’s attitude towards queueing either…
edit: And frankly, I’m quite happy about this.

Which society are you referring to now? In the UK queuing is normal as anything. Nobody thinks about it, everyone does it. It works, it’s accepted. I think it’s only the people looking into the British society who perceive queuing as peculiar 🙂

You said that you can’t change people’s lack of respect for each other – true.
Then you said you’d rather queue – alright. But that’s evenly unrealistic in a society where people don’t want to do so.

I think it’s only the people looking into the British society who perceive queuing as peculiar 🙂

How many of the Vanatu people do you think percieve Land Diving as peculiar?
    (I’m referring to this)

I was referring to a society willing to do so.

If you try to get onto a bus in Austria you’ll likely have very little problems as well – so I can refer to a „more respectful“ society too…

Well, I think we are not quite on the same line here. I refer to ALL societies willing to queue, not only the British. It’s not depended on nationalities, as you know. There are quite a few nations who queue a lot. It’s only the Brits which are remarked on for it most of the time. Never mind, this is certainly not a feature-length topic :haha:

So what on earth in your point now? That the brits queue? Taking ito consideration that everyone here already knew this, that’s not even remotely interesting.
MY point was the following: If it occurs frequently that people are almost killing each other while they are trying to get onto a bus, the problem lies not in their unwillingness to queue but in their lack of mutual respect.
