KoRn frontman Jonathan Davis says the band are stripping back to basics on their new album by choosing not to use state-of-the-art editing technology.
„We want to do it old-school; 24-track tape machine, old analog board. No Pro Tools, no editing, none of that. Just how we did it in the early days,“ he says.
„We’re not trying to do „KoRn II,“ or „Life is Peachy II,“ but it’s just to have that vibe back where it’s not too over-produced. Just slamming people’s faces, like we did back, in ’94, ’95, ’98.
„It’s really simple. The other records were just so complicated – which we liked doing – but this one’s going to be simple. It’s about the vibe.“
The band is touring America now and will hit a number of European festivals over the summer.
„We’re just going to go out and tour and get out of the studio. Then we’ll be back and we’ll start fresh,“ Davis says.
Despite the departure of Brian „Head“ Welch and David Silveria, the soul of the band is still very much intact, with original members Davis, Fieldy and Munky making up the KoRn trinity.
„The heart of the band was the three, so it’s still there,“ Davis says.
„I think the old-school KoRn fans are going to be excited. I know there are the new-school KoRn fans that didn’t grow up on the old stuff, and this will turn them on to it.“
