Nun schreibe ich endlich einmal etwas zu den angesprochenen Scheiben. Besser spät als nie.
@delirium: Book of Sand machen es einem mit ihrer Interpretation von Hipster Black Metal auf „Destruction, Not Reformation“ nicht gerade leicht. Ich bin mir immer noch nicht ganz sicher, ob der LoFi Sound als zu bemüht experimentell nervt und die sich fast schon penetrant in den Vordergrund pöbelnden Streicher einfallslose Möchtegernmelancholie sind, oder man danach hier schlicht nicht fragen darf, sondern sich einfach auf das Klangerlebnis einlassen und sich von der irgendwo halt doch nicht ganz alltäglichen Atmosphäre einhüllen lassen sollte. Unter den richtigen äußeren Umständen zu späterer Stunde im Dunkeln und bei angemessener raumerfüllender Klangwucht auf der heimischen Stereoanlage funktioniert das nämlich für mich ausgesprochen gut. Auf Kopfhörern unterwegs gibt mir das Album jedoch rein gar nichts – das Problem habe ich andererseits fast immer bei Musik, die weniger auf echtes Songwriting als auf Atmosphäre setzt. In den richtigen Situationen konnte mich die Scheibe aber wie schon angedeutet vollends überzeugen und die üblichen Verdächtigen hier im Forum können da ruhig ein Ohr riskieren.

Das neue Album ist übrigens wesentlich abgedrehter und auch wenn mich das zunächst sehr angesprochen hat, gefällt es mir nach dem ersten kompletten Durchlauf noch nicht so wirklich. Das gesamte Werk der (im wesentlichen eigentlich aus einem Mann bestehenden) Band kann man sich bei Interesse auf ihrer bandcamp Seite anhören.
@saro: Danke erstmal für deine wie immer sehr ausführlichen Ausführungen. Ich kann alles, was du schreibst, nachvollziehen und würde dir auch nur zu gern zustimmen, allerdings hat bei mir diese Begeisterung noch nicht eingesetzt. In erster Linie sind es die teilweise doch extrem cremigen Teenie-Mitsing-Parts und das hier und da etwas dick aufgetragene Feeling einzelner Stellen, die mich davon abhalten, das Album wirklich gut zu finden. Letzteres kann ich nur ganz schwer beschreiben, aber es erinnert mich immer auf äußerst unangenehme Weise an genau die Dinge, die ich an den anscheinend sehr von Mike Portnoy geprägten vorletzten beiden Dream Theater Alben so furchtbar fand. Zufall? Ein weiteres Problem ist vielleicht, dass ich das wirklich völlig geile „Trashed and Scattered“ seit Release des Albums als MP3 auf meinem Rechner habe. In den seither vergangenen sieben Jahren erinnerte mich das immer wieder daran, dass ich da auch mal das Album bräuchte, und vielleicht sind dadurch die Erwartungen zu hoch gewesen: Der Song bleibt für mich zum jetzigen Zeitpunkt das ganz, ganz klare Highlight. Mal schauen, wie ich mit der Scheibe in Zukunft noch weiterkomme…

Ich sollte für einen User dazu was schreiben, ich glaub andysocial wars.
Man kann fast sagen, dass ich eigentlich blind an das Album herangegangen bin (1 bis 2 Hörproben vorher) und ich kannte die Band vorher auch nicht.
Dehalb kann ich jetzt das Album nicht mit den Vorgängern vergleichen. Ich denke, dass man das auch nicht so gut kann, denn sie haben es ja mit einem Jazz-Orchester und mit Streichern aufgenommen.
Es ist einfach nur grandios und großartig!
Das ganze Album lässt sich meiner Meinugn nach als jazzigem Prog Rock mit ordentlich Gebläse bezeichnen.
Die Songs sind sehr unterschiedlich, mal mehr Bläser (Opener) und mal mehr Rock und hier und da was pyschedelisch.
Ich finde auch , dass man das Album nicht einfach nebenbei laufen lassen sollte, sondern sich die Zeit nehmen und es in Ruhe hören , um es auf sich wirken zu lassen.
Obwohl, dass Album eingentlich bei mir täglich läuft, muss ich es denke ich noch ein paar mal hören, um zu jedem Song etwas zu sagen. Auf jeden fall ein großartiges und gewaltiges(was vorallem den Bläsern mit zuverdanken ist , finde ich) Album. Für das Album ist die Höchstnote zu wenig!
